| Luederitz | permanently | Please take note that the road leading to Lüderitz is tarred and is a very beautiful road. However, visitors should take note that if they are approximately 30KM outside Lüderitz and the wind is blowing, there could be sand dunes in the road. Speed should then be reduced to much lower than normal (for a sandstorm reduce to as low as 20-60 Km per hour) | NO | Lüderitz Nest Hotel |

05.03.2009 | The B8 from Rundu to Ngoma Border passing katima Mulilo is good with the odd pot hole here and there. The Okvango river is in flood, but the gravel road to the lodges at Divundu are NOT a problem, but please CALL THE lodges before hand as some of them have to take you in by boat, again depending on the river height. THERE IS NOW PETROL AT KONGOLA, IT HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY ANDRE AND HE IS BUSY WITH A NEW SHOP AS WELL. Just some of the gravel roads that are near the Zambezi River have been closed but seldom are they used by Tourists. The transit road in the chobe has some very bad pot, just look out for the game and potholes at the same time and keep to the speed limit. The Tar road bridge across the zambezi at the Zambia border is fine, but between the border and livingstone it is reported that the road also has some potholes, because of the very big trucks now using that route. The road out of livingstone for the first 80km is in a bad condition but repairs are underway, BUT watch out for the heavy transport trucks. From Kasane to Nata, that road is still very bad with potholes, although they have managed to fill in some of the potholes. A tender has gone out but believe they are waiting for the rains to go. Other wise nothing much, yes the rivers are in flood, dont try to do any crossing, always make sure that if the road you wish to cross is flooded, get out of your car walk in the water and see how it pushes you. If it is very shallow and not fast running you should be able to pass, always if you can ask the local people, they know far more than you and I would know. Should you require further info on any roads around the top end of namibia and our neighbours, please feel free to call + 264 (0) 8124 77363. |
